I finally did something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time: I recorded my first video as L. C. Richards.
It’s nothing fancy. No studio. No special lighting. Just me, sitting in my kitchen writing space, drinking coffee, rambling a little, and talking about books, writing, mysteries, and why I do all this in the first place. In a world increasingly filled with AI-generated everything and polished internet personas, I thought it might be nice to simply be real.
I talk a little about my journey as a writer, how old television shows like Magnum P.I., The Rockford Files, Columbo, and Murder, She Wrote influenced my fiction, and where some of the upcoming Julia books are headed. Panama City. Port St. Joe. Key West. A cruise to the Caribbean. Cedar Key. And beyond.
Mostly, though, this is about building a bridge. Writing can be a strangely solitary business, but books are ultimately about communication. Stories are meant to connect people. So I’m trying to collapse the distance between writer and reader a little bit. Pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee, and come along for the ride. I think we’re going to have some fun.
